Mason Stretch - Board Member
I am an experienced and successful secondary school Principal who is passionate about creating environments for staff and students to excel.
I bring the perspective to the board of someone who has delivered the Award to rangatahi for over twenty years within a secondary school setting. I am an Award Centre Co-ordinator and run the expedition section of the Award for students. I also bring a broader education background and governance experience through my work as a principal. I am passionate about what the Award can offer our rangatahi around citizenship, personal growth and character development.
I have been the Principal of Cromwell College since 2008 with 530 students and 80 teaching staff and support staff. Through the combined efforts of a great team of staff, Board, and community I have led significant improvements in academic achievement, engagement, school pride, staff satisfaction and community perception evidenced by successive positive ERO reviews in 2011, 2014 and 2019. Prior to my current role, I was the Assistant Principal at John McGlashan College in Dunedin.
My priority for my Award role is to willingly share my skills, knowledge and aroha to support effective governance of the Award. My priority is seeing the Award thrive as a relevant, exciting, and valuable pathway for our rangatahi to build skills, confidence, and character.
