Richard Chilton - Board Member
I have been involved with the board for seven years, during which time there have been significant changes to both the structure and make-up of the board and the National Office. I have a practical and strategic perspective that I bring to board discussions and often seek to challenge the status quo. As a scientist I also bring an analytical perspective.
I work as an environmental scientist for a leading New Zealand engineering firm with 22 years experience. I hold leadership roles in this current position, helping to develop the strategic direction and growth in my team and business. I previously held a general manager position which provided a greater leadership opportunity and growth in the application of a wider range of business and management processes.
I have several priorities for the Award. First and foremost is ensuring the Award continues to be a viable and relevant organisation for young people into the future. This is coupled with increasing participation by growing the Award’s profile, while striving to make the Award available to all young people, regardless of background or circumstances. A key focus is supporting our volunteer base of Award Leaders who are essential to the success of the Award and the outcomes for participants.
Richard is a Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award holder.
