Strategic partnerships to benefit youth
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award (the Award), alongside both Girls’ Brigade New Zealand and Boys’ Brigade/ICONZ (BBNZ), are proud to announce an update to their partnership, which will give young people aged between 14 and 25 the opportunity to complete two prestigious youth awards simultaneously.
Karen Ross - National Director of The Award; Elizabeth Dickens – Administrative Director of Girls’ Brigade New Zealand; and Michael Good - National Director of BBNZ; have signed updated Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) outlining how the organisations will work together.
Under the updated MoU, activities completed as part of either Girls’ Brigade or BBNZ may be cross-credited towards the achievement of The Award at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
“Participants will gain twice the recognition for the efforts they put in,” explains Karen Ross. “Being able to add the Award to their résumés will demonstrate to employers, education providers and others in the community that they have met an international standard in youth development” says Karen Ross.
“The relationship between BBNZ and the Award is a highly valued one and one that we wish to see grow and develop. Participating in the process of encouraging our young people to be the best they can be and provide them with challenges and opportunities is a shared vision of both organisations. With cross crediting of activity achievement in both programmes will assist in achieving great outcomes for our boys who will go on to use the life skills and values they have learned throughout their lives” comments Michael Good.
Elizabeth Dickens is also looking forward to the benefits the partnership will bring. “Girls' Brigade New Zealand are proud to be partnering with Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award, to facilitate the Award for girls within our Girls' Brigade and iconz4girlz groups. Much of the GB and IFG badge work can be used to gain the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels”.
By working together, Girls’ Brigade New Zealand, Boys’ Brigade New Zealand and The Award will benefit from the added reach of their respective award schemes, helping more young New Zealanders to reach their potential as a result.
