Training
Participants will need considerable (we recommend around 20 hours as a guideline) practical and theoretical training to enable them to undertake their journey safely.
The training needs to be given by a suitably qualified and/or experienced adult instructor who should be satisfied that the training has enabled the team to carry out their Qualifying Journey in a safe and self-reliant manner. Necessary skills which usually need to be learnt include:
- First Aid
- Exploration Planning
- Trip Planning
- Food & Nutrition
- Leadership
- Navigation
- Campcraft
- Environmental Care
- Proficiency in the chosen mode of transport
