WORD

WORD (World Off-Road Riding Department) is a non-profit youth mountain bike organisation that is all about getting young people on bikes and out on the trails! They run after-school programmes, holiday camps and Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award Adventurous Journeys.

WORD strives to provide a sense of community amongst young mountain bikers and uses riding bikes as a tool to support young people’s development in both personal and social aspects of life.

WORD, World Off-road Riding Department, is a registered Non-Profit Organisation all about encouraging young people to enjoy mountain biking! They run after school programmes and holiday camps for kids aged 7-17 years old in the Wellington Region, Wānaka and Christchurch (new for 2022!).

In 2013 WORD was founded with the mission to build confidence, encourage new friendships, and foster a lifelong love of mountain biking.

WORD is an Accredited Award Provider that offers Bronze, Silver, and Gold practice and qualifying Adventurous Journeys in a bike packing format with specific Adventurous Journey Training to go with it. Bike packing is a relatively new way of adventuring, it involves traveling from A to B fully self-supported, carrying everything you need on your bike! Bike packing opens up so many amazing places to see and experience. It’s fun, challenging, and rewarding. WORD believe there is no better way to adventure! Currently, they are operating in Wānaka, with adventure options such as Ben Lomond Station, Aspiring National Park, Paparoa trail, Old Ghost Road and more! Wellington and Christchurch are now also open to explore too.
