Physical Recreation
The Physical Recreation section is all about getting active in a way that works for you. Whether you’re hitting the court, riding trails, diving into the ocean, or taking dance classes — this part of your Award helps you feel stronger, healthier, and more confident. It’s not just about fitness. It’s about feeling good in your own skin, being part of a team (if you want to!), and building positive habits that stick.
What you'll do
Choose a physical activity that excites you — something you already love or something new you’ve always wanted to try. You can do it on your own or with others. What matters is that you stick with it and improve over time.
Your goal should be personal to you. Set a SMART goal that focuses on what you want to achieve — whether it’s running a certain distance, mastering a dance routine, or building strength.
💡 Your Award Leader can help you make sure your chosen activity fits the Physical Recreation criteria (and not Skills or Voluntary Service).
What Counts as Physical Recreation?
There are heaps of activities to choose from. Just make sure it’s physically challenging for you and helps you improve. Some ideas include:
Time Commitment
The Award is designed to encourage good habits, steady commitment, and personal growth over time.
Participants are required to complete 13, 26, or 52 hours (depending on Award level and section requirements) over the minimum timeframe for their Award, with progress recorded in the Online Record Book (ORB).
The ORB counts up to one hour per week per section towards Award hours, so it is important to record the actual date and time spent on each activity.
If you do more hours than required, you do not need to log every activity. For activities that take place fortnightly or monthly, simply record the date and time completed. The ORB can count up to four hours across a 28-day period towards your Award hours.
