New Zealand Red Cross is part of the largest humanitarian network in the world. New Zealand Red Cross is a nationwide Accredited provider of the Volunteer Service and Skills sections of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Hillary Award. By choosing Red Cross for your Award journey, you too can be a part of this amazing heritage of helping and learn valuable skills along the way.
Volunteer opportunities:
-Retail Support – Volunteering in a New Zealand Red Cross Shop is a great
way to gain retail experience while supporting their work in your community.
It is a great training ground and offers participants work experience with
education to employment.
-Good and Ready volunteer- Become a champion in your community today
and take action to prepare your whānau, neighbours or communities for
future emergencies.
Many other opportunities are available but will need to be discussed with
your local NZ Red Cross team to ensure assessors are available to sign off
your service hours. Other specific youth development is in the works.
Skills:
Youth Psychological First Aid- based on giving participants the capability to provide emotional and practical support in
crisis.
First Aid- New Zealand Red Cross offer many thorough NZQA-approved first aid courses to help Kiwis look after each
other at home and in school or the workplace.
